Founded in 1895, The University of Texas at Arlington is a Carnegie Research 1 institution with more than 100 years of academic excellence and tradition. At UTA, we’re committed to challenging our students to engage with the world around them in ways that make a measurable impact. The university is the largest in North Texas and second largest in The University of Texas System, offering more than 180 bachelor’s, master's, and doctoral degree programs. More than 41,000 students call UTA home.
UTA’s Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) is fully accredited from the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation. We are one of the top teacher-producing universities in Texas with teacher graduates who consistently maintain some of the highest certification-exam pass rates and 5-year retention rates in the state.
The Master of Education in Teaching (M.Ed.T.), a 30-hour non-thesis degree, is a unique and specialized degree that enables a student holding a baccalaureate degree to pursue initial teacher certification and use those hours toward requirements of a master’s degree. It is perfect for someone who decides to pursue teaching after already finishing a four-year degree. In addition to being accepted by the Office of Graduate Studies, students must also be admitted into the Teacher Certification program. For teacher certification, students must meet state requirements for their teaching field(s) or specialization and complete the graduate-level coursework for early childhood to grade 6 ESL, middle level, secondary or early childhood to grade 6 bilingual certification. They must also fulfill the student teaching requirements and pass the appropriate certification exams. Up to 18 hours of teacher certification coursework may be applied to the total 30 hours required for completion of the M.Ed.T. However, students must complete teacher certification courses and pass the appropriate certification exams before proceeding to courses that apply to the master’s degree. Students may earn teacher certification without completing a master’s degree. See the College of Education Web site at www.uta.edu/coed for more details on all programs.

Program Hallmarks
Hands-on experiences are essential to our programs. Students participate in field experiences in all of their education courses where they visit K-12 classrooms and work with children. Students are able to see applications of the content they are being taught in their education courses.
The University of Texas at Arlington is proud to have a campus community made up of students from a variety of backgrounds. The nearby K-12 schools also reflect a wide range of ethnic and economic experiences. These field placements help our students learn how to work well in different professional settings.
Becoming a great teacher requires not only observing master teachers but also receiving mentoring and coaching from master teachers. Our students are matched with an outstanding cooperating teacher in their clinical teaching semester. They work closely with teachers to receive feedback and guidance.
At UT Arlington, we pride ourselves on our commitment to improvement and excellence. We are one of only a few teacher preparation programs in the state that has received consistent accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. We also have very high passing rates on state certification exams. Over 95 percent of our students who seek employment are successful.
