East Texas A&M’s Career and Technical Education program is designed for career changers, veterans and retirees. If you have a bachelor's degree and professional expertise, you can use your work experience to focus on a specific field of study. The University offers eight Career and Technical Education certificates designed to prepare you for a career as a certified Texas teacher.
If you have work experience, you can get certified in the following subjects:

  • Trades and Industrial Education
  • Health Science
  • Marketing 

The following subjects do not require work experience to get certified: 

  • Agricultural, Food and Natural Resources 
  • Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Human Development and Family Studies
  • Hospitality
  • Nutrition and Food Sciences
  • Technology Education

You can complete this alternative certification track in one and a half to two years. Highlights include:

  • Fully online
  • 16-week semesters
  • Six education courses totaling 18 credit hours
  • Choose to focus on grades 6-12 or grades 8-12
